About Us

The Biomedical Graduate Student Council (BGSC) at Virginia Commonwealth University was established to improve representation of biomedical graduate students by providing a direct point of communication between students and faculty. We aim to grow the program by promoting interdepartmental collaboration, professional development, recruitment, community outreach, as well as promoting the VCU BME community through social events.

What We Do:

Graduate Student Representation

We directly work with the BME faculty to ensure students' opinions about classes and TA assignments are heard.

Professional Development

We aim to engage graduate BME students in research-centric conversations beyond the classroom and laboratory. We help students navigate their graduate career, including exploration of grant funding and introducing different career paths!

Interdisciplinary Collaboration

Ever wonder what students in other labs and departments are doing? We plan events with other departments, even outside of the College of Engineering to help broaden our students' horizon. We show that many principles we use on a day-to-day basis can be applied to many other disciplines. Let us know if you have any collaboration ideas! .

Recruitment

Recruitment is a huge part of what the BGSC does. We plan both prospective and graduate student visits, booth set up and outreach at the annual BMES conference, and much more! Click Contact Us to ask questions about life here at VCU and the Richmond, VA area.

Community Outreach

We hope to engage our graduate student body in helping the community around us! We hope to reach young children in Richmond and surrounding areas in science, technology, engineering, and math!

Graduate Student Socialization

We hope to provide more ways for our graduate student body to interact and collaborate!
