The Art History Graduate Student Association (AHGSA) promotes academic and professional development among the graduate students of the Art History department. Our association helps new students adjust to graduate life while also helping those nearing graduation prepare for their professional careers. Utilizing an approach informed by horizontal solidarity, the AHGSA provides a multilayered support network for graduate students in the department. The primary concerns of this association are to address pedagogical issues related to our profession, to provide hands-on opportunities for professional, academic, and personal growth, to promote departmental and university service, and to foster graduate student interaction. The AHGSA also facilitates communication with faculty and staff to address graduate student concerns.

The Purpose of the BGSO is to:
1. Serve as a voice for the bioinformatics graduate students to help better future classes and the Master’s program as a whole.

The purpose and mission of the Black Graduate Student Association (BGSA) of Virginia Commonwealth University is to provide a supportive and collaborative environment for students of African descent, and students of color currently enrolled in graduate programs at Virginia Commonwealth University. The BGSA seeks to address the underrepresentation of Black students in graduate programs both through efforts to retain current Black graduate students, and efforts to increase the number of Black undergraduate students who apply to and enroll in graduate programs. The organization also aims to increase Virginia Commonwealth University’s awareness and responsiveness to the professional and academic needs of Black graduate students. The BGSA will accomplish this purpose and mission through promoting scholarship, developing mentorship, establishing a supportive professional and personal community, providing service to the greater Richmond area, and encouraging social justice within the larger community.

The Graduate Writers Association (GWA) assists in the funding and organization of events for Virginia Commonwealth University’s Department of English and facilitates the involvement of graduate students in literary readings and other projects. The primary purpose of GWA is to schedule and host Moveable Feast, the graduate student reading series, which showcases fiction, poetry, creative non-fiction, and other alternative modes of writing. The Moveable Feast reading series is a cornerstone of the MFA program and provides a platform for writers to present creative work to the greater VCU and Richmond community. Moveable Feast also serves as the final thesis presentation for third-year MFA students graduating from the program.
