SOVO Fair

Guest Speaker: Professor Peter Savelyev

Thursday (9/28) at 2pm in Snead Hall room B2165, we'll be holding our second meeting of the semester. Professor Peter Savelyev will be joining us to talk about grad school options as well as some of his recent research.

Prof. Savelyev received his PhD in Economics from the University of Chicago. Prior to joining VCU, he worked at Vanderbilt University and the College of William & Mary. The topics of Prof. Savelyev's research are centered around child development, the role of soft skills, genetic endowments, and health and longevity.

The Federal Reserve's Diverse Economics Conference is fast approaching! Below is a description of the event:

Join us in welcoming VCU alumni Mahd Mahmud this Friday, Feb 16th from 3-4pm in Snead Hall room B2165. There's also a virtual option - you can find the Zoom link and register for this meeting here!

After leaving VCU, Mahd worked as a research associate at the Federal Reserve Board of Governors, and is now in his second year pursuing a PhD in economics at Michigan State. Join us Friday, March 22 at 3pm in Snead Hall room B2165 for an exclusive discussion with Dr. Hamermesh on his research, focused on time use, labor demand, discrimination, social insurance programs, and some unusual applications of labor economics.

Dr. Daniel Hamermesh is a Fellow of the Econometric Society and the Society of Labor Economists, a Research Associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research and the Institute for the Study of Labor (IZA), and Past President of the Society of Labor Economists and of the Midwest Economics Association.

Jacob currently serves as a Research Associate for the Regional and Community Analysis team at the Richmond Fed and will soon begin working towards a Ph.D. Gain insights into the application process for the Fed and graduate school, as well as career development tips.
