About Us

The purpose of the Public Health Student Association (PHSA) is to further the mission of the VCU School of Population Health. The PHSA wishes to expand upon the mission of the VCU School of Population Health by fostering fellowship, promoting professional development, engaging in activities that assist in academic success, and being of service to the greater community. Our association aims to provide experiential learning, service work opportunities, professional development, social events, networking events, and academic assistance to current MPH/PhD students in the VCU School of Population Health Department of Epidemiology.

What is Public Health?

Public health is the collective pursuit of optimal well- being for all, emphasizing prevention and wellness. At its core, it safeguards and enhances the health of communities through organized efforts, informed policies, and community engagement. From disease prevention and health promotion to addressing social drivers of health, public health is a dynamic field dedicated to creating conditions that empower individuals and communities to lead healthier lives.

Programming & Intervention

Programming in public health involves designing strategic initiatives to address health issues, utilizing data- driven approaches. Interventions are targeted actions implemented to promote health, prevent disease, and improve community well- being. These initiatives often include education, vaccination campaigns, and policy changes. Through effective programming and interventions, public health strives to create lasting positive impacts on populations.

Community Engagement & Collaboration

MPH at VCU

The VCU Master of Public Health Program is a fully accredited program by the standards of CEPH, offering concentrations in epidemiology, applied public health, and cancer health equity. The program also offers dual degrees of MD/MPH, MSW/MPH, and PharmD/MPH.
