Designing a Digital Project for your Focused Inquiry course?

In your work for Focused Inquiry, you're not always asked to write traditional essays. Hopefully expressing yourself with audio, video, and multimedia feels liberating—but maybe using new technologies is a step outside your comfort zone!

Join us on Zoom on Tuesday and Thursday for online sessions facilitated by VCU librarian Oscar Keyes of The Workshop, a division of Cabell Library providing students with hardware, software, spaces and expertise to help them produce creative multimedia work. (Take advantage of the resources and services The Workshop has to offer, too!)

Become a Change-Maker with VCU Transform

VCU Transform is the community for students who want to explore their leadership potential and become change-makers in their local and global communities. Students will build skills through a specialized curriculum, activities, and a community-focused residential experience in West Grace North Residence Hall.

As a Transform student, you get to build relationships and community by living and learning with your peers all while expanding your network by interacting with campus and community leaders. Students should consider VCU Transform as they look for a place to build a community, challenge themselves, and grow in their time at VCU. Our faculty and staff are professionals dedicated to guiding students to achieve your goals and make an impact during your time in the program.

For more information or to apply, visit https://lead.vcu.edu/transform-llp/. Applications will close in mid-February. First Gen? Support Your Peers As a You First Mentor

Check out this great opportunity from our partners at You First at VCU! You First Mentors are upper-level first-generation college students who help first-year first-gen students adjust to college. Mentors help normalize what can be a stressful time, and they help mentees build their confidence and a sense of belonging. This program is as much for the mentors as it is for the mentees. As a mentor, you’ll receive training and develop leadership skills, and through this process you’ll see just how much you already know!

For more information information or to apply, visit https://youfirst.vcu.edu/resources/you-first-mentors/. Applications are due by Sunday, February 12. Stop by You First at VCU's information table in the lobby of the University Student Commons, 907 Floyd Ave., to connect with current mentors and learn more about the requirements and expectations of the role. Tables will be staffed today (Tuesday, February 7) and tomorrow (Wednesday, February 8) from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Are you a first-gen student new to VCU interested in having a mentor? Answer this questionnaire that will help You First match you with a mentor. And if you haven't already, join the You First at VCU student organization. This will help you stay connected with services and events (like parties! And pizza!). 35% of VCU Freshmen this year are first-gen!
