Details
The purpose of this event is to educate attendees about innovative approaches to gun violence prevention, focusing on Richmond as a significant hub for gun violence. The speaker (Ra-Twoine Fields M.A. and current clinical psychology doctoral student) will share insights into their weapons intervention program, related research, and a grant initiative supported by the Department of Juvenile Justice Services (DJJS). Following the speaking engagement, participants will have the opportunity to earn a Stop the Bleed certification, a critical life saving skill that is especially imperative in addressing the realities of gun violence in our community.
Stop The Bleed Training (April 13th from 10 am-1 pm):
Stop the Bleed Certification is a nationally recognized training program designed to teach participants how to respond effectively in life-threatening bleeding emergencies. Created by the American College of Surgeons, the program equips individuals with the knowledge and hands-on skills necessary to control severe bleeding and potentially save lives before professional medical help arrives.
The certification includes training on:
- Recognizing life-threatening bleeding.
- Proper use of tourniquets and how to apply them effectively.
- Packing wounds and applying pressure to control bleeding.
- Using bleeding control kits in emergency situations.
Participants who complete the training will receive a certification demonstrating their ability to provide critical assistance during bleeding emergencies, an invaluable skill in incidents such as car accidents, natural disasters, or gun violence-related injuries.
Attendance at Part One is required to participate in Stop the Bleed Training/Certification (Part Two).
