About Us
We are a student-driven organization seeking to understand the intersection of healing and the arts through the exploration of various storytelling forms (nonfiction, fiction, poetry, visual arts, and more). Storytelling & Healing functions as both a creative and academic group, seeking to explore, analyze, and create individual and collective stories of narrative healing. In examining modalities of healing language, we seek to investigate the intrinsic ties between humanism, medicine, and self-expression. This exploration aims to build empathy: the recognition of the hidden tension, subtext, and imagery within another person’s expressed and internalized language. In redefining and re-authoring our personal stories, we strive for empowerment, resilience, growth, and self-discovery of the individual voice. Storytelling & Healing seeks to build a platform for literature and the arts, intersectionality, and inclusive dialogue and expression within the VCU community and Richmond community at large.
