Recruitment / New Member Info

Spring 2023

SMIP is a long-term portfolio that focuses on large and mid-cap growth-focused equities, evaluating on the criteria of long-term investment and fundamental analysis. We tend to focus on technology-centric companies with a proven story for success.

None of that may make any sense to you. That's totally fine. We look for genuine interest and eagerness to learn, and we're always looking for diverse perspectives. With all new recruits, we have training to teach you everything you need to know, from basic acronyms, to screening for a stock, to valuing and pitching a stock for investment.

In terms of our schedule, we meet every Wednesday from 1-3pm in the Capital Markets Room (B2162) and training is on Mondays from 1-2pm, or 2-3pm depending on your preference. We have seven sectors (technology, energy and utilities, financials, healthcare, industrials and materials, consumer discretionary, consumer staples) of which you would join one, working with a lead and other analysts to do reports and earnings presentations. SMIP offers tremendous opportunities for learning, building analytical, investing, and leadership skills useful in your personal life as well as if you choose a career in finance, and making new friends.

However, SMIP does not accept everyone. We have a rigorous application and interview process which allows us to select the best and most motivated candidates to join our organization.

If you have any other questions or concerns, feel free to head to our contact page or check out our FAQ.
