Hosted by The Commons, VCU Peer Leaders and LEAD, this is a free conference, open to all VCU students regardless of leadership experience.
Leaders Unleashed is a gateway experience to finding your life-changing experiences, your best friend or mentor, and shaping your role as a leader at VCU, in your community, and beyond. This conference is open to all VCU students who are interested in growing as a leader. Students with no current leadership role are encourage to attend. All current student leaders are also invited and welcome.
Please plan to have a one-hour pre-conference virtual meeting with your cohort the week of October 26 to 30 and make sure you are available from 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday, October 31 to gain the full conference experience.
The Leadership Unleashed: 2020 Student Leadership Conference will be held virtually via Zoom or other video-conferencing service.
Pre-Conference Cohort Meetings, Dates TBD
After you register for the conference, you will be sent more information about your cohort (group) and facilitator as the conference approaches. The conference will include small and large group discussions, activities and opportunities for reflection throughout the conference. Attendees will be grouped into smaller cohorts with a lead facilitator (VCU Faculty or Staff) and several other students. Each group will focus on one of three interest areas:
Leadership and Effective Communication
Participants in this cohort will have a deep dive into unleashing their personal talents, skills, and values for effective leadership. After the conference, participants will feel more confident in themselves as a leader and influence others through persuasive communication skills in face-to-face and virtual spaces.
Management and Team Development
Participants in this cohort will have a deep dive into unleashing their leadership identity for more effective organizations and teams. After the conference, participants will be able to apply tangible management and delegation skills to accomplish goals, influence their peers to action, and connect with campus resources to support team development.
Social Justice and Community Engagement
Participants in this cohort will have a deep dive into unleashing personal voice for positive social change on campus and in the community. Through a social justice, equity, and inclusion lens, participants will be able to identify ways to sustain mutually beneficial relationships across the University and greater Richmond region for positive change.
Registrants will select their top interest(s) in the registration form.
Students who attend Leaders Unleashed will:
- Identify ways to effectively communicate virtually with their peers/students, supervisors, and advisors/supervisors;
- Hone their delegation/workflow/leadership skillsUnderstand more about social justice, and how to be inclusive leaders on campus;
- Understand more about social justice, and how to be inclusive leaders on campus;
- Identify ways to build and maintain community and connection to VCU and the greater Richmond region.
