Art History Club serves to bring students of all disciplines together through their mutual interest in art history. The Black Men in Medicine, serving the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), is committed to the academic success and advancement of underrepresented minority students interested in healthcare professions. In 2013, the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) released an alarming report that the number of black men applying to medical school was decreasing. This absence of an increase threatens efforts to effectively address health disparities and excellence in clinical care. As a result, this prompted the organization’s creation. The organization accomplishes its mission by equipping black male students with a peer-support network to navigate their undergraduate years (mentoring, shadowing, research, social events, workshops, school visits, and academic assistance) and an associate network of clinicians and researchers to provide invaluable advice and career development direction.

People of color tend to face completely different obstacles when it comes to mental health. We’re often burdened by a generational ignorance of this growing issue because we aren’t viewed as the face of depression, anxiety, etc. As the suicide rate of young minorities begins to drastically rise it’s time to take the necessary steps to prevent it. As an organization, we plan to initiate a “Change of Mind” for students of color who suffer from a mental illness. By providing a positive outlet for discussion, stress release, and advice, black students will be equipped to change the stigma of mental health/illness within our community.

The Formula SAE team at VCU intends to build a new "Formula One" style race electric car that will be entered in the SAE International competition whereupon completion of the car will be judged in design and performance against ~140 other colleges. Passive means of aid are only a temporary solution to supporting these individuals. Help the Homeless strives to focus more on active means of aid, such as an emphasis on educational and occupational opportunities to encourage self-sustainment for long-term results.
