The Bachelors of Social Work Student Association

Come join us at VCU's Undergraduate Social Work Student Organization!

Who are we?

The VCU Bachelor's in Social Work Student Association aims to foster connections among the next generation of social workers and those passionate about social justice, as well as engage with the greater Richmond community.

Who can join?

While our mission and name find their origins in the social work profession, our organization seeks to extend an invitation to all those passionate about social justice, psychology, politics, social and institutional change, and anyone looking to start a career in a helping profession.

What we do:

The BSWSA holds four primary types of events for its members including volunteer experiences, panel discussions, social gatherings, and workshops that all seek to help students learn valuable skills applicable to all helping careers.

Volunteer Experiences

To enhance Social Work Education, the BSWSA partners with local agencies in Richmond to provide students with an opportunity to get involved in Richmond's social work scene through volunteer initiatives. Whether it's helping a local shelter by bringing the holidays to families they serve or coming together to donate food to students in need, our volunteer experiences get students out into the community before their field practicum.

Social Events

Come and enjoy our social events! We understand that the subject matter our field is heavy, so these gatherings are all about relaxation, self-care, and connection. Take a break, make friends, and recharge with activities intended to bring joy and camaraderie to our community.

Panel Discussions

Learn from the experts! Our panel discussions feature seasoned professionals, faculty, and alumni sharing their insights on pressing topics in social work. Engage in meaningful conversations and expand your understanding of the field.

Workshops

Build your skills with us! Our hands-on workshops are designed to equip you with practical tools and knowledge for your social work journey. Whether it’s resume building, clinical techniques, or advocacy training, there’s always something new to learn.
