An Officer of Election is part of a team that conducts elections at a polling place on Election Day. Your job is to conduct the election fairly and lawfully, and to assist voters in a courteous and respectful manner.

The Registrar for the City of Richmond is seeking VCU students to volunteer at various polling locations across the city on Tuesday, November 2, 2021. Please note VCU does NOT hold classes on Election Day, so students should be available to volunteer. This commitment does require a training to be scheduled/held prior to November 2nd. Officers of Election will be paid $130 for their service this Election Day.

Locations in need of volunteers are as follows:
Arthur Ashe Center (3017 N. Arthur Ashe Blvd)
Tabernacle Baptist Church (1925 Grove Ave)
Albert V. Norrell Elementary School (2120 Fendall St)
Calhoun Center (436 Calhoun St)
Woodland Heights Baptist Church (31st Street and Springhill Ave)
Bellemeade Community Center (1800 Lynhaven Ave)
Thirty-first Street Baptist Church (823 North 31st Street)

Officer of Election roles are set by each locality based on need and staff availability, but typically cover the following functions: greeter, pollbook officer, ballot officer, voting equipment and booth officer.

Qualifications - Officers of Election must be competent citizens. If practicable, each officer should be a qualified voter of the precinct they are appointed to serve, but in any case, a qualified voter of the Commonwealth.

For an in depth overview of this role, please visit https://www.elections.virginia.gov/officer-of-elections/.

If you would like to serve, but have concerns about transportation, the VCU Votes Student Coalition can help! Email Vanessa Lemus at lemusvs@vcu.edu for more information.
