Large movements always have countless people behind the scenes doing essential work for the movement's success who struggle to be remembered in history books. Bayard Rustin is one of those individuals. Rustin's leadership and ethical commitments were essential to the American Civil Rights Movement in the 1950s and 60s, yet the Movement's structure and Rustin's queer identity forced him to the background, even when his ideas about nonviolent resistance and organizing a certain March on Washington were very much in the forefront. Come learn more about Rustin's leadership and think about how we can embody a similar leadership ethic today.
