Join us for an empowering celebration of Trans Day of Visibility, featuring:
  1. Various Gender-Affirming Workshops/Services (11 A.M. - 1 P.M.)
  2. Community Lunch with Trans Elder and Speaker Charley Burton (1:30 P.M. - 2:30 P.M.)
  3. Resource fair with campus and community partners (3:30 - 5 P.M.)
All workshops and resources are first come, first served -- attendance will be capped. Like all OMSA events, this event is open to all!

Please read this entire event description thoroughly before registering. Pay close attention to the times attached to various resources and workshops.

In order to participate, students must:
  • Register here on RamsConnect.
    • Binder clinics require additional registration, see more below.
  • Check-in:
    • 10:15 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. | Check in at the Shockoe Room (University Student Commons, 907 Floyd Ave., Suite 222). 
    • 3:30 p.m. -  5 p.m. | Check in at the Richmond Salons (University Student Commons, 907 Floyd Ave., 2nd Floor). 

Program Schedule:


10:15 A.M. | Check-in begins in the Shockoe Room, where students will receive specific location details for each workshop and service. 

11 A.M. - 1 P.M. | After checking in, participants are welcome to attend any of the following workshops and services. Some services overlap with others, so please select carefully. Pay close attention to the times.

11 A.M. - 12 P.M.
  • Free Binder Clinic™: Safer Chest Binding 101 with SensibleTips LLC | Additional registration required
    • This comprehensive information session will equip registrants with up-to-date safety etiquette, harm reduction guidelines and product review of the Underworks® and gc2b® chest binder models. Distribution of reserved chest binding items will take place upon completion of the information session.
  • Trans 101: Self-Advocacy in Healthcare Spaces & Legal Systems Workshop with Jordin Cotman
    • This workshop will focus on building students’ capacity for self-advocacy in healthcare spaces and legal systems. Trans advocate Jordin Cotman will cover topics, including changing your name/gender marker and accessing gender affirming care.
  • Safer Sex 101: STI Myths & Facts with Richmond & Henrico Health Districs (RHHD)
    • A fruity breakdown of the myths and facts when it comes to STI's, including transmission and treatment, with a trans and queer inclusive lens. Students learn how to correctly use condoms and dental dams, how to take preventative measures against HIV, and more! Presented by Bellamy Riley, Darcy Strayer, and Alex Medrano.
11 A.M. - 1 P.M.
  • Gender Affirming Voice Training with Jaemin Yoo
    • Led by a VCU Health speech pathologist, this 2-hour introductory workshop will focus on helping participants discover a more authentic and affirming voice that is in line with their identity. Students will discuss voice production, voice modification techniques, and additional communication considerations with the goal of achieving a more congruent voice. Participants should come ready to explore their voice, engage in vocal play, and gain a deeper
      understanding of gender affirming voice training.
  • Clothing Exchange Closet with SensibleTips LLC
    • Drop in anytime between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. A place for students to swap and/or access clothing to facilitate gender affirmation, exploration, and expression. 
  • Hair Consultations with RVA Clippers and Autonomy Salon And Wellness
    • Drop in anytime between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Looking to change up your hair, but not sure what to do or how to do it? Students will get to consult with trans affirming stylists including Black Pride RVA co-founder Cheezi Farmer and the founder of Autonomy Salon and Wellness Hayden Muller. 
12 P.M. - 1 P.M.
  • Safer Sex 101: Open Q&A with Richmond & Henrico Health Districs (RHHD)
    • This is a safe and open space for any questions students might have regarding safer sex practices and knowledge! Ask our trans-identifying presenters, either directly or anonymously, any questions you might have about contraception, devices used during intimacy, lubricants, and more! Presented by Bellamy Riley, Darcy Strayer, and Alex Medrano.
  • Free Binder Clinic™: Safer Chest Taping 101 with SensibleTips LLC | Additional registration required
    • This comprehensive information session will equip attendees with up-to-date safety etiquette, harm reduction guidelines and product review of TransTape® and KT Tape®. Distribution of reserved chest binding items will take place upon completion of the information session.
1:30 - 2:30 P.M. | Lunch with trans elder and speaker Charley Burton. Grab a boxed lunch and join us for a community meal! (Read more about Mr. Burton here)

3:30 - 5:30 P.M. | Trans-Affirming Resource Fair with campus and community partners. Check-in at the Richmond Salons.
